Finish It Up Friday: Giant Granny Panties Quilt

Yesterday, while not at the sewing summit, I finished up my "Giant Granny Panties" Quilt that I made on the quilt along hosted by Jennifer at That Girl, That Quilt.  I'm still trying to decide if I want to add a 3-4 inch blue border or not.  Any thoughts?

I don't know why there aren't more people over there making it, because it's so quick, easy and fun!  It seems to me that there are fewer and fewer people joining these contests and quilt alongs.  Maybe it's because there are more now, maybe it's the time of year, maybe Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have taken over everyone's free time.  Shrug...  I still enjoy them though, so I keep starting more and more quilt alongs.

I also started cutting into some Tula Pink fabric for her quilt along, which is next on my list!  Getting to meet and chat with Tula Pink this fall in Walla Walla at Stash fabric store makes me love this fabric even more!

I'm linking up with Amandajean, at Crazy Mom Quilts' "Finish It Up Friday".  Come over and see what others have finished!!

  1. No borders - I always think it looks more contemporary without borders. :)

I love this quilt name - why is it called "Granny Panties"?

  2. Without borders it looks like a giant granny square, which I quite like. But if you need it to be bigger then a border is the way to go.

I chuckled at "while not at Sewing Summit" - I'm enjoying the few photos I've seen.

I think your guesses on lower QAL participation are all correct. Speaking for myself, it's definitely that I'm wrapped up in my own goings on and project wish list.

  4. It's so pretty! I have every intention of doing the GGP eventually. My thing with quilt alongs is that I very rarely ever have everything that I need when they start and I just end up doing it on my own weird time frame while I gather supplies all pell mell, and work on other stuff, get to the part where I have to spend 4 hours pressing seams and take a day off, etc. I'm bad at schedules, apparently.

  5. I would have loved to do this Qal, but I always seem to find out about them when they are almost over. I usually don't sew too much in the summer, but I would haved squeezed this in! How do come across QALs? Sometimes I go on Flickr and search for QALs, but usually that have finished the QALs.

  6. I like borders too...but wouldn't put blue-against-blue. Maybe a red zinger (narrow border) and then a wider border in the blue?
